All Persons participating in any manner in these wild boar season must possess a valid Class P License except that bona fide WV residents landowners, their resident children, or resident parents and bona fide resident tenants may hunt their own land within the boar hunting area without a Class P License. Class P License for firearms season must be applied for. Applicants applying for these licenses must be WV residents and at least 12 years old.

It is illegal to take or attempt to take a bear with steel traps. It is illegal to shoot or kill a cub bear or any bear accompanied by a cub; otherwise any bear 100 pounds or larger is legal.

Trapping is prohibited on federally-owned land within the boundaries of the New River Gorge National River.
