Mrs. Gilbert's LD Program

The learning disabilities (LD) program at Zela Elementary consists of 18 students from grades 1 through 6. Reading comprehension skills and basic math skills are emphasized. American history reading activities have sparked interest in reading and learning of our nation's early beginnings.

One of the students favorite activities included research reports on famous Native Americans. Traditional research techniques were used as well as being able to locate information on the Internet.

Another popular activity was our "Boston Tea Party." In this activity the students drank tea and enjoyed colonial style refreshments as role-play was utilized to discuss opinions, causes, events, and effects of the American Revolution.
